چکیده

Background Non-essential nutrients, L-carnitine (carnitine) and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) have attracted much attention as supplements for anti-aging and improvement of metabolism. Although the levels of carnitine and CoQ10 in the body decrease with advancing age, dietitians do not consider intakes of these nutrients when they plan food prescription or menu for elderly people. In addition, there are few reports comparing nutritional status of these nutrients between hospitalized and independent elderly people. In this study, the blood levels of carnitine and CoQ10 of long-term hospitalized and independent elderly people were investigated.

Relationship between functional capacity and body mass index with plasma coenzyme Q10 and oxidative damage in community-dwelling elderly-people.

The impact of aging and physical capacity on coenzyme Q10 (Q10) levels in human blood is unknown. Plasma Q10 is an important factor in cardiovascular diseases. To understand how physical activity in the elderly affects endogenous Q10 levels in blood plasma, we studied a cohort of healthy community-dwelling people. Volunteers were subjected to different tests of the Functional Fitness Test Batte...

Beneficial Effects of Coenzyme Q10 in Streptozotocin-Induced Type I Diabetic Rats

The present investigation was undertaken to study the benefical effects of Coenzyme Q10 in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced type I diabetic rats. STZ-diabetes produced a significant increase in fasting glucose levels that was associated with decrease in serum insulin levels. STZ also produced hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceredemia, increase in lipid peroxidation and decrease in high density lip...

Significant changes in circulating microRNA by dietary supplementation of selenium and coenzyme Q10 in healthy elderly males. A subgroup analysis of a prospective randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial among elderly Swedish citizens

BACKGROUND Selenium and coenzyme Q10 is essential for important cellular functions. A low selenium intake is reported from many European countries, and the endogenous coenzyme Q10 production is decreasing in the body with increasing age. Supplementation with selenium and coenzyme Q10 in elderly have shown reduced cardiovascular mortality and reduced levels of markers of inflammation. However, m...
